Note that Success Leaves Clues!

This Video comes from Chris Lee and Matty Mazarati, BOTH of these boys began training in high school and they trained ALL year long, in season and off season.

Chris played Baseball in Edison at JP Stevens and Matty played Football at Monroe which isn’t the closest drive to The Underground BUT he MADE IT HAPPEN.

He found a way to get that training in and it helped him get to a great college to continue doing great things!

They BOTH Trained Year Round, off season and in season.

In college, they come back and train during holiday and summer breaks.

Success

Success Takes NO Vacations!

It’s an Honor and Pleasure to see these boys grow into young, successful men, NOT just in sports, but most of all, in LIFE!!!

Success Leaves Clues – “The Best Athletes Train All Year”

Written by zach. Posted in Articles, Athlete Training, Edison, Manasquan, NJ Wrestling Training, Scotch Plains, Success Stories, Training Videos, Underground Strength Camp, Workouts

vanmiller-wrestling

Van Miller discusses that he’s been training year round since 7th grade, all year, every year.

You can train JUST in the off season, but even with ZERO knowledge of sports performance, Understand this simple concept:

– When you STOP training for Strength, Speed, Power & Confidence, you can NOT Gain, let alone maintain these physical and emotional traits

– The longer you go without proper training, the more you lose strength, speed, power & confidence.

– Often times, the Most important time of the season is the end when you have the Biggest competitions. Why work hard all off season and stop the Very thing that gives you the edge when you need it the most?

Take a look around at what “normal” athletes are doing…..

Then, see what the BEST athletes do.

Success leaves clues!

East Brunswick Athlete Gains 30 + Lbs & Confidence BIG TIME

Written by zach. Posted in Articles, Athlete Training, Edison, Manasquan, NJ Wrestling Training, Success Stories, Training Videos, Underground Strength Camp, Workouts

mihir-deadlift-kettlebells

Check out this AWESOME SUCCESS STORY of Mihir Pillai of east Brunswick.

Mihir began training with us in late 5th grade while his older brother trained here.

Normally, we do NOT train athletes until they are in 6th grade and older.

Mihir had a special case where we HAD to help him.

At first, Mihir just did the warm up with us plus 1 or 2 sets of sleds and Kettlebell Carries.

Slowly, we added a little bit more work, more exericses here and there and now we see this amazing young man transformed BEYOND the Physical. His confidence has gone sky high and it reminds us what TRUE strength REALLY is.

TRUE strength will always transcend the gym walls.

His confidence has changed tremendously and he has gained OVER 30 lbs!

Listen / Watch the Video below as to how Mihir plays Soccer, Wrestles, trains with us AND does work on his OWN. He is a GREAT example of being self motivated and driven to succeed.

He has FUN with all of his training.

TRUE “Strength” transcends the weight room and THAT is what we’re all about at The Underground Strength Gym.

Strong Mind

Strong Body

STRONG LIFE!

Success is NO Accident.

Success Leaves Clues.

There is MUCH to Learn from Mihir, regardless of your age.

NJ Baseball Strength & Conditioning / Performance Training Now at Full Count Baseball

Written by zach. Posted in Announcements, Articles, Athlete Training, NJ Baseball Training, Nutrition, Training Videos, Underground Strength Camp, Workouts

baseball-strength-nj-training

We’re excited to announce our partnership with Full Count Baseball & Softball Academy in Middlesex, NJ.

[vimeo width=”700″ height=”400″]https://vimeo.com/172750568[/vimeo]

With the hectic schedules of athletes & parents, we have worked hard to create an opportunity for parents to take advantage of a full Baseball performance program under 1 roof.

The best Baseball players are NOT just highly skilled, but they are a cut above in their physical and mental preparation.

If you look back 10 + years ago, you rarely heard about Baseball players needing shoulder or Tommy John surgery.

Back then, many Baseball players played multiple sports which we highly encourage.

Back then, kids weren’t learning Baseball skills at such an advanced level nor were they playing so frequently. When a Baseball player learns to throw and hit harder, his / her body MUST be physically prepared for the work or an injury will be waiting for you around the corner.

Our training will focus on players in grades 6 and up.

The Underground Strength Gym in our other locations has been working with middle school, high school and collegiate Baseball players since 2002 back when players would travel to my garage for specialized training.

With the numerous Baseball clubs at different times of the year, Baseball players are injuring themselves at rates greater than ever before.

And, with the repetitive nature of Baseball skills, many players are losing their athleticism which is slowing down your child’s overall sports performance.

To achieve your maximum potential requires the Baseball / Softball player to train the body and mind that supports and increases success on the field.

The goal of our Baseball Strength & Conditioning Program is to focus on the BIG picture:

– The baseball / softball coaches will teach the sport specific skills.

– We will build overall athleticism through a training program that BUILDS you into a better ball player. The training will NOT fatigue or take away from your Baseball skills.

– ALL training is age appropriate. We understand exactly what a middle school athlete needs at various ages as well as what each high school athlete needs at their various ages / stages of physical and mental development.

– Our training will develop greater joint & muscular strength to reduce chances of injury.

– The training will develop more speed & power that will transfer to hitting, throwing, running and agility on the field.

– The athlete will dramatically increase confidence both in sports AND in life.

– Nutrition Guidelines will be given to the parents and athletes to increase Baseball performance.

– Flexibility & Mobility will be address during each workout as well as with parents / baseball player education to create continuity from Baseball / Softball skills to lifestyle at home to training at The Underground.

– In a nut shell, training at The Underground Strength Gym combined with your Baseball Skills training, your child will get the advantage over the competition.

ALL athletes and parents are looking for an edge.

NOW is the time!

We’re excited to see you at Full Count Baseball & Softball Academy!

Success Story: Manasquan Athlete Changes His Attitude AND Life

Written by zach. Posted in Announcements, Articles, Athlete Training, Edison, Manasquan, NJ Baseball Training, NJ Football Training, NJ Wrestling Training, Nutrition, Scotch Plains, Success Stories, Training Videos, Underground Strength Camp, Workouts

2PainsInLife-Zach

I am inspired so often by the athletes we get to work with on a daily basis, I wish we had a full time camera crew in there to share their work ethic and dedication.

The training these athletes go through is beyond what my words can describe.

Many do not continue because it’s too hard for them. They’re not driven deeply enough to love the work.

But this story is Awesome.

Jimmy McGee of Howell, who trains at The Manasquan Underground Strength Gym has gone through a tremendous transformation.

His attitude has changed 180 degrees and he is a new kid!

Check out this Video and be ready to get inspired!

Jimmy finishes his workout and ALWAYS asks me, “Can I do extra?”

This is what CHAMPIONS DO.

They do the extra work that “normal” athletes don’t want to do.

Everyone is capable of becoming a Champion.

But, capable and potential are what you CAN be.

The bottom line is what will you DO to become the Champion you have the potential to become.

Earning Your Greatness VS Finding Greatness

Written by zach. Posted in Articles, Athlete Training, Edison, Manasquan, NJ Football Training, NJ Swim Training, NJ Track & Field Training, NJ Wrestling Training, Scotch Plains, Training Videos, Underground Strength Camp, Workouts

RayJaz-Z-2016

This is a powerful mindset video I want to share with our athletes in Manasquan, Edison and soon Scotch Plains…..

The mind is so crucial to success not just in sports, but in ALL areas of life.

Being a Champion in Sports but mediocre or “good enough” in your academics and social life is unacceptable.

That’s NOT what we teach at The Underground Strength Gym.

Be GREAT in ALL areas of your life. Consistency in your Relentless Pursuit of Excellence must be expected from yourself first and foremost. When you hold yourself to a higher standard, you make yourself better and everyone else around you better.

If you’re a team sport athlete, I always remind you, your team is only as strong as your weakest player.

Do you want to be great?

Wondering when or how your success will finally happen?

Watch this important video and share with any coaches / parents / friends who would benefit from this video.

Manasquan Underground Strength Gym Summer STRONG

Written by zach. Posted in Announcements, Articles, Athlete Training, Edison, Manasquan, NJ Baseball Training, NJ Football Training, NJ Wrestling Training, Scotch Plains, Success Stories, Underground Strength Camp, Workouts

Manasquan-UndergroundStrengthGym-Summer

This Morning was the FINAL Morning Summer STRONG session at The Manasquan Underground Strength Gym.

This was our 3rd Summer! Time flies……

I signed the lease on this Building 1 month after Hurricane Sandy.

The building was a mess when I walked in there with my wife and kids. I remember standing in the dark, empty building and it looked like something out of a horror film, seriously!

The walls and beams were covered in grease with saw dust was caked on top of the grease! I wasn’t even looking for a Gym in Manasquan. I had been looking in the areas about 10-20 minutes north of Manasquan and a few days before my birthday I saw this warehouse for rent in Manasquan and checked it out.

I didn’t even know Manasquan had warehouse space!

I will admit, I went through a tough time after Hurricane Sandy so my mind was in a strange place.

I didn’t even have home damage nor did I lose anything and I can’t imagine what people experienced on so many levels who DID lose homes and more.

I remember taking a bike ride passed the barricades that blocked the streets over the rail road tracks just 2 weeks after Sandy.

I rode my bike through Manasquan past the train tracks and the moment that F–ked me up was when I saw on the sidewalk a mattress, a blender and a stuffed teddy bear. It crushed my heart seeing that Teddy Bear stuffed between a mattress and ruined furniture on a sidewalk.

That image stuck in my mind for months and years, I don’t know why, it just did.

I think it made me think if it happened to my own kids…..

That inspired me to want to help the kids & families in Manasquan….. I felt so compelled to help and it was on my mind 24-7, how can I help Manasquan.

I e mailed ALL the coaches many, many times once The Manasquan Underground Strength Gym opened…..

I called the Guidance Dept multiple times and offered free training to ANY family / athlete who was affected during Sandy…..

I sent them e mails, left voice mails and more…..

I spoke with The AD and e mailed him many times…..

Crickets……

I learned that you can’t help people until they WANT the help.

I learned that just because someone NEEDS it doesn’t mean they WANT it.

This morning’s group in Manasquan was unique in that it was all of our younger athletes.

Seeing Zach Goodale here made me feel similar I assume to how his Dad, Coach Scott Goodale probably felt when he started the program at Rutgers Wrestling.

ALL the naysayers come out of the wood work and tell you what to do, how to do it, then they tell you that you can’t do this and can’t do that……

It’s stressful because ALL you want to do is share your passion and help others succeed and you’re confused as to WHY people don’t want to have any part of that. The naysayers sway you away from being passionate and try to convince you things can never change for the better.

Deep down you KNOW the answer is to work your hardest and do the right thing…..

Ignore the naysayers, stay relentless.

You learn that the MOST important people are those who are standing on the front lines WITH you, especially during the TOUGH times. These are the people who would “go to war” with you if there came such a time.

THOSE are the ONLY people who count……

Those Gossip Queens & naysayers are on the sidelines advising you on things they NEVER dared to do, those people must be ignored. They will always be there, being negative and dramatic. IGNORE THEM!

I started to build momentum at The Manasquan Underground Strength Gym when my kids told me they wanted The Underground Strength Gym stickers and t shirts. I realized if my own kids believe in me, then THAT is all I need to REALLY crush it.

I got my kids their stickers and t shirts and they put the stickers on their computers and constantly wore the t shirts. I knew I had to inspire my own kids. I knew right then and there that YES, we are MORE than a “gym”.

Of course, Along the way I made some mistakes by allowing the wrong people through those “brick walls”…… Here and there, the wrong people sneak in and I wrongly assumed they were dedicated athletes with supportive parents.

If only the Seas were always so smooth, but that is never the case.

But what’s Awesome is the wrong people weed them self OUT because the athletes who ARE Dedicated create a standard of excellence that the wrong people can not handle. Their intensity pushes out the kids who don’t want any part of consistent, hard work.

There were days in the beginning where it would be just myself and 1 athlete.

We would train together and in my mind it didn’t matter if there was 1 kid or 20 kids in a group. What mattered was having the RIGHT kids…..

Kids who were work horses.

I always said, I’ll burn this gym down before I let lazy people take over. I won’t stand for it……

The crew this morning just DESTROYED the gym. They reminded me how LUCKY I am.

Of course, the harder you work, the luckier you get. I learned that lesson LONG ago.

This morning was special though…….

Intensity.

Excellence.

RELENTLESS.

These athletes worked their tails off and smiled the entire time.

When I see the kids who are here, finding The Underground tucked away behind other stores and the Manasquan Train tracks, I USED to think we needed a “better location” because for years locals would tell me they didn’t know we were there.

But I realized we’re back there, tucked away for a reason.

From Randy Pausch, The Last Lecture

“The brick walls are there for a reason.

The brick walls are not there to keep us out.

The brick walls are there to give us a chance to show how badly we want something.

Because the brick walls are there to stop the people who don’t want it badly enough.

They’re there to stop the other people.”

quote-the-brick-walls-are-there-for-a-reason-the-brick-walls-are-not-there-to-keep-us-out-the-brick-randy-pausch-258548

============

These athletes in the photo above travel here from Howell, Toms River, Spring Lake, Barnegat and Wall.

The Underground Strength Gym NEVER stood for being for everyone because NOT everyone wants this type of work. For years I found myself wanting it more than some of the kids or caring more for their success than their own parents.

The athletes and their parents who ARE here understand what we do.

They accept our intensity and “craziness” because “normal” actions achieves normal results……

The teams with losing records year after year…..

THAT is NO accident.

That Mediocrity is Earned through “normal” work.

The teams with winning records year after year…..

THAT Success is NO accident.

Success is Earned Through The RELENTLESS PURSUIT OF EXCELLENCE.

Thanks to ALL who have helped make The Underground Strength Gym what it is…..

Including those who told me not to do this and that, you can’t do this, just do bla bla bla……

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again.

To stop me, you’re gonna have to kill me. Sounds crazy to the normal people but as I always say, I don’t want to be normal and I don’t want to work with normal people. You have to be a little bit crazy to be successful in this world, not just in sports but in life!

THAT is the dedication I have. THAT is the dedication I will ALWAYS have.

Lessons In Dedication From Olympic Champion, Kyle Snyder

Written by zach. Posted in Articles, Athlete Training, Edison, Manasquan, NJ Wrestling Training, Nutrition, Success Stories, Training Videos, Underground Strength Camp, Workouts

kyle-snyder

Kyle Snyder just became America’s Youngest Gold Medalist in Wrestling at age 20.

At age 19 he won The World Championships and The National Championships in Wrestling.

To put this in perspective, I’ve seen MANY parents hold their son back and switch around schools and we see 19 year olds who are NOT winning state or even conference titles.

The bottom line: You can NOT avoid the work and dedication, regardless of the “age advantage”.

In this 9 minute documentary video on Kyle there are MANY lessons you can and should pick up on.

The biggest tip on Kyle’s reason for success is when you hear the coaches talking about Kyle’s dedication being on Level 10 while others are on level 4 or 5.

And this description of his behavior: “He understands hard work, he understands responsibility, if he makes a mistake there’s no blame, he goes back and fixes the problem…..”

Watch the Video …..

What level are YOU on?

How hard are you pushing in training?

How often do you set goals, revisit goals, reassess your training to ensure you achieve your goals?

Are you a level 10 on Nutrition? Most are on level 2 or 3 if we want to be honest.

What about your lifestyle?

Opportunity is ALWAYS knocking for ALL of our athletes. This movie is NOT just about wrestling, it’s about being the BEST YOU that YOU can be. Watch it MANY times and you’ll keep learning more lessons. Of course, ultimately, you must take action with those lessons.

You’re either an action taker or an excuse maker. You can’t be both!

See you at The Underground!

WOW!

Lift STRONG 2016 held at The Manasquan Underground Strength Gym was an AMAZING Success!

19 Men’s Open Competitors

8 Middle School Competitors

33 HS Competitors

We have some extra donations coming in this week so that brings us just over $3K in Donations for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society!!!

This has been Our biggest / best fundraiser for Leukemia and Lymphoma Society ever!

Thank you to ALL who supported in some shape or form. I know many had sport games, SATs and many other things happening.

Dimitrious Morgan was the ONLY Manasquan High School Athlete to compete.

Understandably so, it’s a LONG road to get here from Manasquan :)!

There were Coaches who organized athletes from their teams from over 1 hour each way, THAT is Dedication & Caring!

Those schools / teams were Randolph High School, Notre Dame Prep and Woodbridge HS.

I LOVE when Coaches support what we do, it shows who REALLY cares and who “gets it”.

The most successful coaches have open minds and will find ANY resource allowed and available to help
their athletes achieve more Success!

This was our FIRST time ever holding a middle school category and our 8 athletes got after it BIG time. 7 were from our Manasquan location & Jordan Campbell from our Edison location was the LONE rep from Team Edison!

It was VERY CLOSE across the board for our middle school athletes, often times each athlete inched one another out by only a few hundreds of a second!

See ALL Lift STRONG 2016 Photos HERE

Our sponsor came through BIG time, my friends at SORINEX.

Also, Our boys from Wall HS were reppin! Freddy Alexander recruited a fellow Volleyball Player and as always our athletes from both locations showed up to compete TOUGH!

THAT is GREAT. Way to step it up, fellas! You guys make us proud!

I know everyone is busy so I am grateful for all who found a way to support amidst the hectic schedules we all have. It’s NOT easy but nothing worth achieving IS easy!

Most of all, Team Underground is an AWESOME FAMILY. We came together to change lives and what we do at The Underground Strength Gym spans the globe because of YOU!

Every video I share of you guys on Instagram inspires people around the world. THAT is why people trek to Manasquan and Edison, they want to see what YOU do! Be proud of yourself for that!

Your work ethic and intensity has a power that is changing lives at ALL times, from all around the world.

Be proud of yourself and NEVER stop changing lives. EVER.

The Coast Star reporter and photographer also stopped by. It’s Great having support inside the town.

Owen and The Coast Star were blown away when they saw around 100 people IN the gym and the lifters tearing through the tire flip, deadlift and bench press! Our middle school athletes had it TOUGH!

– Sled Sprint on the sticky turf with the humidity!

– 40 – 50 lbs Med Ball Shouldering

– Med Ball Sprint Relay with 30, 40 & 50 b med balls.

Those 3 events were ALL a Gut Check!

Some athletes who attended alone with NO teammates may have felt a bit out of place at first but……

You MIGHT stand alone with NO teammates, but as I said during our opening ceremony, look all around and you’ve got countless athletes ready to fire you up and be your teammate. Underground is a family and I am very proud of how powerful we are as a TEAM.

At the end of the event, the reporter interviewed me and asked, “How do you feel that in 2007 you only had 12 or 13 people show up and now close to 100, did you ever imagine it would get this big?”

My Response…..

I NEVER think small. I always think BIG and imagine big and shoot for greatness.

The lesson here:

YOU should NEVER think small or do anything to a small scale, aka average or “good enough”.

YOU are capable of Greatness but remember, you GET WHAT YOU EARN.

Again, BIG thanks to ALL athletes, coaches, parents and friends who made it happen in some shape or
form, your support is what makes this event so great!
