Manasquan & Edison Athletes “Men In The Arena” & Navy SEAL Advice

Manasquan-Strength-Win

Before I share some Great News, I want to share a favorite quote we must start implementing in our LIFE.

Apply these words to your training and your life and you WILL begin achieving more success as you push outside your comfort zone.

We call this getting comfortable being Uncomfortable.

CONGRATS TO THE MEN IN THE ARENA

Manasquan & Edison Underground Strength Gym

Many of you like to stay quiet about your accomplishments and I like that. Stay Humble. Always.

I like that a lot. You don’t brag and you don’t make excuses for your losses either. Many excuse makers quickly point the finger for their losses with “I got ripped off” or “We don’t have our own wrestling room” or “We need turf….”

You must OWN your setbacks, not just your success.

At The Underground Strength Gym, Your success stories will inspire others to aim bigger, both our current athletes and athletes of the future who will train here. I am often sharing stories with our athletes because I want them to see that the blue print is there.

It’s another reminder that it takes HARD WORK and Consistency, NONE of the success stories happen in 6 weeks or 3 months. It is a process. That is The TRUTH.

And because We are a private club vs the type of place that allows anyone and everyone to train here, we set different standards than the norm and we push for greatness and reject mediocrity.

NOT all of our athletes and parents understand this type of commitment just yet.

Some think we’re too serious, but, I see it as loving the hard work and going out there to have FUN, competing at your best ability. Why would you compete and not prepare yourself as best as possible to succeed?

Sounds crazy to me but MANY athletes are competing and do ZERO work in the off season to get better.

Our BEST athletes have Supportive Parents.

– Parents driving them to sports clubs

– Parents driving them to The Underground Strength Gym

– Parents stocking the cabinets and fridge with healthy foods

– Parents who do NOT enable excuses for their son

Making yourself better is about LIFE, not just about sports.

Putting yourself out there, challenging yourself, working hard to achieve goals, refusing to be “normal” ….

THAT is FUN, and, there is PLENTY of time to live a balanced life by training a few times a week. Too many athletes are delusional about what it takes to succeed and they think if they can’t sit at the beach all day or they can’t be at the mall all weekend that their lives will be uprooted.

The thing that is NOT FUN is to show up and giving half hearted efforts.

When you make excuses you are competing to LOSE and be Average at best.

To compete in your sports and not even try to give it your best is to sacrifice your own gift. You will grow old and NEVER KNOW what you could have achieved and what type of success you could have become.

THAT is NOT FUN. So STOP thinking that you have no time when the truth is, we ALL have the time. The difference between Champions and those who don’t achieve success is that The Champion OWNS his Life.

The Champions takes 100% responsibility and accountability for their actions.

It’s always more FUN and rewarding when you go out there, day in and day out doing your best. When you TRULY give it your ALL, you can walk tall for a lifetime.

At the end of the day it’s up to YOU.

Congrats to Eric Keosseian of Howell who has been competing like a madman, chasing the challenges and hunting down Gold Medals!

Flo Nationals where Eric placed 8th to become an All American then Va Beach Nationals but unfortunately came down with a stomach bug on his 2nd day. Eric is fired up to succeed. That’s how we must ALL be, fired up and self motivated.

Self Discipline Leads to SELF Motivation.

Advice from a Navy SEAL (Jocko Willink) on Disciplining Yourself……

What You Need Is SELF DISCIPLINE

– Your parents can NOT give it to you, neither can your coaches.

– When it’s competition time, all the screaming, shouting and coaching will not help you “Rise to the Occasion”.

– The TRUTH is, You FALL to the level of your Training.

– Train HARD and Train to WIN and you will WIN more than the athlete who makes excuses. Period.

That’s ALL you CAN do.

Give it your best and Nothing Less. Your efforts are under YOUR control. Do it NOW because time goes TOO fast and before you know it, you’re a senior in high school scrambling to make it all work.

You’ll regret all those excuses for the rest of your life….

Or, you’ll live a life pretending it never mattered.

It DOES matter.

That goes for training, school, social life, academics, work and all other areas of your life.

ALL in, ALL the time.

Manasquan & Edison Athletes: Your SELF Discipline Says It ALL

Manasquan-Gym-Driscoll

Your self discipline will be the BIG factor contributing to your Success OR keeping you from becoming a success.

When an athlete who is undersized and weak starts training with us, we hammer home and give the guidelines required in nutrition and training.

If that athlete skips breakfast on the regular, eats junk on the regular and has a laundry list of excuses, his lack of self discipline will keep him in the shadows as he remains mediocre at best.

How dedicated are you as an athlete to becoming a Champion?

Your ACTIONS will tell all, not your words.

Parents – Do you support your child AND deny his excuses?

The easy road is the road of “normal” athletes.

Normal = Average

Average = Like “Everybody Else”

Everybody else is the very thing a Champion is NOT.

Advice from Navy SEAL, Jocko Willink

WANTED: Hard Working, Dedicated, Hungry & Passionate Athletes Near Edison & Manasquan, NJ

Written by zach. Rosa-Punisher-Gym

Some of our athletes quietly come to The Underground Strength Gym, doing their training with a RARE, quiet intensity. They don’t say much but their intensity speaks quite loud….

Sometimes……

I find out about the success stories of our Manasquan & Edison athletes through following a newspaper reporter on Twitter or Facebook.

Other times…..

I get a text message or perhaps an e mail from the parents or the athlete telling me how they did at a recent competition.

Some of our athletes and parents are private, they don’t want to even tell me about their success stories. They feel as if they are bragging so they don’t tell others.

I understand both aspects…… The quiet intensity AND the pride and desire to tell others about your success.

You fear that if you tell others it will look like bragging, but it is not bragging.

We LOVE hearing your success that comes through your dedication and hard work.

You EARNED your success.

Remember: You Get What You Earn!

This morning, I came across some posts from coaches and parents and saw some great news I want to share with some powerful lessons behind them.

– I saw The Santaniello bros placed In States.

Vincent placed 5th and Anthony 4th.

Santaniello-Wrestling-States

They are both work horses, these 2 boys.

We’ve been working together for a long time now at The Underground Strength Gym. Anthony started in 5th grade and Vincent began in 7th grade.

Weekdays, Weekends…. These boys are here on the attack along with our other middle school athletes.

Often times I give these boys the opportunity to finish their workout and then I turn around and they’re doing what we call “Champion Workouts”.

This is when the athlete trains through his OWN desire. You give them the opportunity to stop or leave and they refuse to stop, they go and train more. Their inner drive guides them to work harder than the competition.

I’ll see The Santaniello bros and the other boys from our “middle school wrecking crew” climbing the rope, doing pull ups, pushing sleds and more.

When I see the extra work, THAT is the difference maker.

We Can’t Make You Do the Extra Work, YOU Must WANT It Yourself.

quote-the-brick-walls-are-there-for-a-reason-the-brick-walls-are-not-there-to-keep-us-out-the-brick-randy-pausch-258548

After seeing the news of Anthony & Vincent achieving All State Honors….

I saw a Facebook Post about 1 of our Edison Underground Strength Gym Wrestlers, Anthony White of South Plainfield.

The post I caught was from Steve Giordano, 1 of the best coaches and athletes I’ve ever known.

Steve was a very big inspiration to me as he was a few years ahead of me in my younger years and I would see Steve in the newspaper or at the local gym tearing the place apart with his intensity.

I STILL remember seeing how intensely he trained at the gym. The memory is imprinted in my mind and that was dating back to the Summer of 1991!

The Post Said….. “Congrats to Anthony White. STATE CHAMP.”

I saw the post around 11 AM on Sunday and I was in shock and also a bit confused for a second because after every training day, my coaches and I check in with one another regarding who trained that day, who skipped their workout, who cancelled, who worked hard, who didn’t work hard, injuries, etc……

And the E Mail from SUNDAY morning says “Anthony White was in and he killed it…..”

I start thinking to myself if we have ANOTHER Anthony White because I JUST saw that Anthony White won the states by PIN yesterday. I’m asking myself how the heck he trained the day after winning a state title?!?!

I’m also thinking and assuming that Anthony would probably be exhausted the day after winning a state tournament and would need to sleep in Sunday morning, especially being it was day light savings AND he probably needed the rest after battling through a state tournament??!!!

So I e mail Coach Rosa to double check and he tells me YES indeed, Anthony not only killed the workout but he also didn’t look the least bit tired.

WOW!!!!

This story reminded me of how Dan Gable went running the day after he won The Olympic Gold Medal.

Anything more that needs to be said about Anthony’s work ethic and dedication is a waste of time & energy if you don’t understand what this young kid is doing through his OWN motivation and how this applies to your success or perhaps your lack of success.

The Other Side of The Story…

Last week I had an athlete on a JV team tell me he missed workouts because he maxed out in the high school weight room.

If you’re on Varsity and the top recruit on the east coast, OK, maybe you’re busy doing a LOT of work.

But…..

If you’re NOT dominating the competition, WHAT excuses can anyone have that is truly valid? The answer is None!

Let me explain…..

Maxing Out in high school doesn’t exhaust you. We’ve been training Football Players since Day 1 and the BEST always show up even when doing these “max outs”.

And by the way, high school athletes who max out are often NOT technically or emotionally ready to hit their best 1 Rep Max AND use safe, proper technique. At The Underground we test every workout, BUT, it doesn’t have to be a 1 rep max. We push for regular progress but it ALL comes down to doing it right.

When you’re in shape as we train you to be, the training we do does NOT interfere with your sports practice or your lifting outside of here. You CAN handle lifting or sports practice and then come to The Underground.

The Champion wants MORE than the norms. Joe Average will make excuses.

WHO are you?

What type of athlete are you?

The norms are doing exactly what your teammates are doing.

The norms are doing what the competition does.

Do NOT get comfortable because maybe you’re the best kid on YOUR team or the strongest athlete in the weight room. “Big fish in a small pond” scenario.

Or, you live in the past……

The glory days….

Your team USED to be good or USED to dominate. The past is GONE. Stop being delusional and taking pride in how your team USED to be. NOW is what counts. Period.

I’ve seen MANY “Gym Strong” athletes who can bench heavier than everyone else BUT, their training does NOT carry over to their sports performance. When we train you at The Underground Strength Gym, the goal is giving you the edge BOTH physically and mentally in Your Sports.

The training has what is called “Transfer of Sport” so it makes you better in your sport. When you win a Football game, Wrestling match, etc no one asks you how much you bench? You either win or lose.

No one asked Anthony White how many pull ups he can do or how fast his 1 mile run is. He won the GOLD medal and is a NJ State Champ. Results Count!

This is why we don’t give a crap when an athlete tells us “I maxed out at school and Squatted 365.”

Then, the same athletes squats with us, yet he is Squatting 165.

WHY the 200 lb difference?

Because of EXCELLENCE. We do it right. Half reps don’t get approved here.

Technique and Sports Performance, THAT is what counts. The half rep, dangerous technique max outs and round back lifts do NOT aid your sports performance. Period.

Those who dog it in their training, making excuses and avoiding the work, eventually, it catches up to them and the lackluster results show up.

I see it ALL the time in ALL sports. Baseball, Football, Wrestling, Soccer, Swimming, Basketball. The truth catches up to you! You get what you earn.

Now…..

Even though this ad below from Ernest Shackleton is a folk tale, I wonder which of our athletes would apply if this was related to training for sports?

Sounds crazy, and if people wanna call me crazy that is ALL good by me, because the “normal” people never achieve greatness.

I WANT to work with the Crazy Athletes who are hungry to become Champions.

In fact, We ONLY want to work with Hard Working, Highly Motivated, Hungry, Dedicated Athletes …..

THESE are the Young Men Wanted for The Underground Strength Gym of Edison and Manasquan.

ShackletonAd-UndergroundStrengthGym

IF the Coach is more fired up than you are to attack training, you’re not digging deep enough. You don’t want it bad enough. You think you’re good enough.

Good Enough is the Death of Greatness

You’re just “playing sports”….. That’s how many see it. Just happy to be part of the team, not caring about that losing record year after year.

What we do in Sports is sooooo much more than “playing sports”……

It’s a journey you take in life, where you face obstacles and must slay your inner demons, slay the dragons on your back that try to hold you down and conform you to become like “everybody else”.

Anthony White just set a new standard……

Hold the standard or get out of the way!

I’m TOO Old – What’s YOUR Excuse?

creed-rocky

Sometimes I sit down and just stop…..

I get into the recliner and if the house is quiet I just might be able to watch a movie…..

The other night I watched the movie Creed. I pushed back the recliner and kicked up my feet. Although I don’t think Creed came close to what Rocky III & IV did in terms of motivation, I DID get inspired watching Adonis Creed training.

As my feet were kicked up and I laid back watching Creed in training, I realized the BIG difference.

When I DID watch Rocky III & IV I was a young kid, capable of putting my body through the hellish training to prepare for combative sports.

But this time, I realized my time has passed.

I’m 40.

And sure, I can go and find something to compete in but it will NEVER be the same.

NEVER.

The time is NOW. Maybe you can do this in your 30s, but do you have the dedication of a Tom Hruby, driving from Indiana 1.5 hours to Northwestern at 4:30 in the morning while also being a father of 4?

I doubt it.

The truth is most people don’t wanna drive more than 15 minutes let alone 90 minutes.

[vimeo width=”700″ height=”400″]https://vimeo.com/150377804[/vimeo]

So…..

For the athletes of The Manasquan and Edison Underground Strength Gym:

– What regrets will you have at age 40 when you sit back in that recliner?

The excuses I hear now…… They are horrific at best.

And, when parents want to see their child “Dominate the competition” yet you only show up once or twice a week, then every other week you’re MIA, well, you will have a LONG list of regrets when you kick back in that recliner at age 40.

I promise you that.

As always….

You Can Have Results Or You Can Have Excuses But You Can’t Have Both!

ALL in, ALL the time.

Manasquan & Edison Athletes: Prepare, Perform, PREVAIL

With E Guy & Olympian, Steve Mocco at American Top Team in Florida!
With E Guy & Olympian, Steve Mocco at American Top Team in Florida!

Time flies!

This weekend is already the district tournament for wrestlers.

It is the weekend when the TRUTH comes out regarding every wrestler’s preparation or lack of preparation. For some, it is the beginning of their journey and goals towards Atlantic City where the state championship is held.

For others, it is the end.

Small Minds and Small Goals lose out.

Coaches who say things like, “We just want to win 1 match here” or other feeble goals never make it.

As I always say, “Kids don’t know what they don’t know.”

What does this mean?

– It means that if an athlete has a coach who doesn’t care & parents who don’t support him in training then he thinks THAT is “normal”.

– On the contrary, if a kid has a Coach who cares and is always encouraging, organizing off season training and has parents who take him to sport clubs and strength clubs, then that kid thinks THAT is “normal”.

What kind of “normal” are you?

The one who accepts average and “good enough” or the one who seeks out Excellence and nothing less?

In the pic above you see my son and I with Olympian and 1 of the most decorated NJ Wrestlers of all time, Steve Mocco. Steve was a Blair Academy wrestler under Coach Buxton which is how we originally connected. Steve was a 4X D1 Finalist and 2X Champion.

That pic was in Florida while my daughter had Tennis Camp for the week, we were lucky enough to train with Steve as our hotel was 300 feet away from American Top Team. I met with Steve one morning and did some consulting with Steve on his training.

I also took The American Top Team Fighters through our signature Underground Strength Gym Power Warm Up which was an awesome experience. There were about 50 fighters and they got after it.

The wrestlers training with Steve were mostly 30-60 minutes away each way. The locals within a few miles were NOT there. He said there are high schools literally minutes away not showing up. I guess being an Olympian to help the local team is an inconvenience?

I have heard the saying that you can not be a King in your own backyard. Hence why Edison and Manasquan locations have 2 or 3 kids from each town and 95% of our athletes are from surrounding towns.

The only answer to this is what is called “Mysteries of the Mind”.

When a team or individual athletes have a losing record, then they NEED to get stronger, tougher, faster and more skilled. These traits will NOT improve by avoiding the WORK.

With the state tournament 3 weeks away, “the hay is in the barn.”

This means that you can’t try to cram in the work NOW to make up for the Lack of work before. You either did the work or you didn’t.

I am excited to make my annual trip to Atlantic City to watch the state wrestling tournament. To get there takes serious WORK. Not just 1 season of work but often times it is years & years of work that all come together.

Success is NO accident.

PREPARE

PERFORM

PREVAIL

Another factor to be addressed is that of challenging yourself.

Strength is the product of Struggle.

I respect Coaches who organize a tough competitive schedule. This way, the athletes know the truth of where they stand. When you’re beating opposing athletes / teams that you know or sub par, is it REALLY a win? NO.

The truth is the truth.

The Struggle is how and when tough, successful athletes are built.

Why Athletes Are Injured 400% More Often?

Written by zach. Posted in Articles, Athlete Training, Edison, Manasquan, NJ Baseball Training, NJ Basketball Training, NJ Cross Country Training, NJ Football Training, NJ Swim Training, NJ Track & Field Training, NJ Volleyball Training, NJ Wrestling Training, Nutrition, Underground Strength Camp, Workouts

Manasquan-Underground-Strength

Has your son ever been injured?

If he is an athlete, which he is, the answer is YES.

There are many reasons WHY athletes get hurt,
and almost all of them we can do something about.

For female athletes, the ACL injury rate is 400% higher
than it was 10 years ago!

Holy s**t!

Think about it…..

As a parent, you don’t recall ANY of your friends
in high school telling you they are getting:

– ACL repair

– Tommy John surgery

– MCL Strains

And RARELY did your friends get:

– rolled ankles

– strained lower backs

– “my shoulder hurts when I do EVERYTHING….”

And……

Back in the day, the AT in the school taped ankles or
said “put ice on it”…..

Are we too smart nowadays or too soft?

The answer is probably BOTH.

Our athletes are specializing WAY too early in sports
nowadays, causing overuse injuries WAY before
we should any sign of wear and tear.

Injuries to soft tissues happen because:

– the body is not ready for the trauma / overuse

If your muscles and connective tissues are weak,
chances of injury go WAY up.

And, in sports, NOTHING is absolute.

This simply means, you never know what is gonna
happen during sports. There is an inherent risk
factor involved with any and all sports.

So, even if you’re “perfectly prepared”, there is still
a chance of injury.

Manasquan-Edison-Underground-Free-Trial

Now, there are other issues as well:

– Poor joint mobility

– Poor joint stability (unstable joints)

– Poor Flexibility (You don’t need to by super flexible BUT
if you’re too tight, your body moves incorrectly causing
injury to lowerback or other joints such as shoulders, ankles and knees)

So, what is THE answer?

1) Be as well prepared as possible

2) Do mobiity work at home, soft tissue work,
stretching and even yoga

3) Proper nutrition and hydration – a starved and / or dehydated body is a
body on the verge of breakdown

4) Find other ways to improve overall athleticism

– Swimming

– Play more than 1 sport or a variation of your sport so
you avoid the overuse issues or at least minimize
overuse injury chances

– Lifestyle: It ALL counts; how much you sleep,
how health you eat, hydration, stress levels and
NOT always going hard in sports training.

MANY of these things are under your control, minus the
ability to predict what happens during competition.

BUT, most injuries happen are because the athletes
and parents refuse to:

– get 8-9 hrs of sleep per night

– drink plenty of water

– perform mobility and proper stretching at home

– eat healthy

– eat enough (skipping meals, eating processed foods, etc)

Your success is in your hands.

THAT is the ultimate truth!

Being a champion takes a LOT more than
merely going to sports practice and training
at The Underground 2 or 3 x week.

We have LOTS of athletes coming here
who are hurting here, there and everywhere when
we tell them day in and day out to spend 10-20 min
a day stretching and rolling on a rumble roller.

MANY have heard this message for YEARS and
still have NOT invested in a rumble roller.

You can have excuses or you can have results
but I promise you that you can NOT have both.

Live The Code 365,

–Z–

PS: NO such thing as a part time champion.

Do it NOW, or regret that you missed the opportunity
to be a champion down the road.

The time is NOW.

Above, Auburn Football Going Through Their “Football Specific Workouts”

I’m NOT just on a mission to build Champions in Sports AND In Life…..

I’m on a Mission to educate the public so they STOP getting fooled into trickery.

Our young athletes get duped and spend their money on “special protein shakes” that will help their muscles explode and get the best pump and workout of their life!

I can assure you, that protein shake will NOT send you to the Big Leagues.

The Football Coaches who say they follow XYZ training program yet they don’t produce A LICK of the results that this training program produces from the Coach who Created it?

There are too many Football Coaches pretending to be Strength Coaches…..

I found Video footage of the Top D1 College Programs in America doing their “Football Specific Workouts” and here’s what I found:

– Deep Squats

– Bench / Floor Press

– Bodyweight Training

– Sprints with Sleds

– Heavy Carries

– Unilateral Training for Upper & Lower Body

– Jump Training

– Power & Hang Cleans

– Wrestling Drills

What athlete, Football player or other sports, doesn’t need to be?

– Stronger

– Tougher

– Faster

– More Explosive

To this day I haven’t worked with an athlete who is “good enough”, there is always work to be done.

The BEST athletes accept the work and go for it.

The average athletes make excuses and ONLY want to do what they like to do, not what they Need to do.

Be a Champion or be Average.

The choice is yours.

And…….

You’re smarter than that. STOP getting duped and tricked by the fads, gimmicks and BS. The Success will come from Your Work, NOT from your Excuses, your protein shakes or your speed ladders.

Nutrition Tips & Mistakes to Avoid for Edison & Manasquan Athletes

Written by zach. Posted in Articles, Athlete Training, Edison, Manasquan, NJ Baseball Training, NJ Basketball Training, NJ Cross Country Training, NJ Fat Loss, NJ Football Training, NJ Swim Training, NJ Track & Field Training, NJ Volleyball Training, NJ Wrestling Training, Nutrition

Curls Farmer Walk

Nutrition tells the TRUTH.

I can see a Mile away who is dialing in their nutrition and who is NOT.

The key to maximizing your training is to eat a strong, healthy style of eating.

Eat when hungry and eat plenty of healthy foods.

Teen athletes can easily follow the 80/20 rule of eating where here and there some junk food is perfectly fine and will NOT ruin them.

But, constant eating of crap, fake foods, sugars, processed foods and also LACK of food will Crush your ability to get Bigger, Stronger, Faster and Tougher.

If being Strong didn’t matter and Size didn’t matter then women would be in The NFL and MMA, Boxing, Wrestling, Youth Football, etc would NOT have weight classes.

Go back and Follow the Nutrition Guidelines in Your Welcome Packet (ALL New Members Get a Welcome Packet with Guidelines to Maximize Success).

It’s Simple and EASY to follow. But, Parents, We need your support to put Strong foods in the house. Your child will not go food shopping and stock the fridge with fruits, veggies, steak, eggs, organic whole milk, etc. A Successful athlete has a GREAT support system from his / her family.

The other day I went to Shop Rite with my family and we bought cooked dinner:

– Chicken Thighs

– Soup

– Salad

We had fruit at home and it was a simple, strong dinner.

Don’t complicate things!

That protein shake will NOT save your child and turn him into an Animal. STOP being duped into all the Bull Shit. There are NO short cuts.

It takes time, Just like training does. Results are the equivalent of how you train, how you eat and your lifestyle.

You can’t eat strong SOME of the time and expect outstanding results.

Here’s the common categories I see of the struggling athlete:

The FAT athlete

– He is eating junk food and processed foods around the clock.

– Mom and Dad stock the cabinets with all types of chips and processed foods.

– Dinner is almost always a high carb pasta type meal.

– He has a low protein, high carb / sugar and high saturated fat intake.

– He often skips breakfast OR if he does eat breakfast, it is cereal or donuts. He claims “I have no time” to eat breakfast.

– He has difficulty making ANY progress: can’t build muscle, can’t get lean / burn fat, feels weak and looks weak.

– He seems to be spinning his wheels in training and progress is very, very slow.

– All training exhausts him, be it sports practice or strength and conditioning. He has NO energy to put
in the appropriate amount of work to achieve anything more than average at best results.

The Skinny / Undersized Athlete

– He doesn’t eat enough and Mom / Dad complain “He just doesn’t have a big appetite”.

– He also skips breakfast or if he does eat breakfast it’s 1 bowl of cereal.

– He has difficulty gaining muscle and getting stronger.

– He lacks consistency and dedication in eating more as well as eating better. You advise him to change his eating and there is always an excuse.

– He lacks energy due to insufficient nutrients and his joints always hurt because he can’t tolerate
had training due to lack of recovery due to lack of proper nutrition.

If I look at our athletes who eat enough AND eat properly we see a physique that is forged in something
similar to a Gladiator.

Muscles are Thick.

Motivation and Energy is High.

Success is high in sports AND academics because the brain LOVES high quality nutrients.

If you’re an athlete who wants results….

If you’re a parent who wants to see your child achieve academic and athletic success…

It takes dedication on ALL fronts: Lifestyle, Nutrition, Training.

Half dedicated efforts will result in average at best results.

The photos above show what happens for those who DO follow through.

You can have excuses or you can have results but you can’t have Both.

Looking forward to seeing you at The Underground Strength Gym of Edison & Manasquan!

Manasquan & Edison Athletes Learn From a 10 Year NFL Veteran

Written by zach. Posted in Articles, Athlete Training, Edison, Manasquan, NJ Baseball Training, NJ Basketball Training, NJ Cross Country Training, NJ Football Training, NJ Swim Training, NJ Track & Field Training, NJ Volleyball Training, NJ Wrestling Training, Underground Strength Camp, Workouts

Parents – Please read ALL e mails.

I had parents asking me to hold a shirt for their son when our e mails stated that these are limited edition, pre order only.

We’ve also had parents sending kids to The Underground not knowing that we didn’t have morning workouts the final week of summer. This was announced through multiple e mails AND you were also unable to schedule yourself for a 9 AM session the final week of Summer.

This shows me you’re NOT paying attention.

You’re not taking 3 minutes to read a few e mails a week to keep up with what we do for your child.

NO good.

Passion-Quote

Many of our athletes are waking up at 12 Noon all Summer long and neither parent or athlete has printed out the welcome packet that has nutrition guidelines.

For this training to work, we need dedication from Parents AND Athletes.

As I always say…..

Train As Hard As You Want to Win

*** TOUGH Lessons From a 10 Year NFL Veteran & Strength Coach ***

WARNING: DO NOT READ If you are Sensitive or Dislike The Truth

John-Wlbourn

My buddy, John Welbourn played 10 years in the NFL

He speaks his mind and I am warning ALL of you to NOT read the below as there is adult language
and Passion behind it all.

I understand more and more that not many will understand my passion, dedication and intensity.

While I talk about year round training, 99% of others are already crying about how tough life is, how there is no time and no energy and bla bla bla

I KNOW…… If I tracked the time people waste on their cell phones it would easily be 1 hour a day at the minimum.

My buddy John and I both have online coaching programs and 1 of our programs is a mere $20 / monthly investment.

MANY people complain about the $20 which always confuses me because it reminds me of my paper route when I was in 3rd grade and I was earning $26 every other weekend delivering newspapers on my bike.

I would deliver newspapers at 7 AM and be finished at 7:30 or 7:40 AM.

When my bike was stolen in 3rd grade, I got a second paper route and would deliver at 7 AM and then the 2nd route would get delivered immediately after school.

I saved up my money to buy a new bike after my first was stolen. Instead of crying and complaining, I went to WORK. Hard Work solves MANY of today’s problems.

LESSONS from a 10 Year NFL Veteran

WARNING: DO NOT READ If you are
Sensitive or Dislike The Truth

By John Welbourn

You make Your own prisons in life, regardless of how much you want to blame those around you.

If 20 bucks or 60 minutes a day is what is preventing you from reaching your goals, get a new job or set an alarm clock.

You have to make time for it. No goal was ever attained by just thinking about.

No amount of dreaming gets your ass in shape.

I have a good friend that runs one of the largest mortgage companies in the country with a few hundred offices with a ½ billion in revenue.

He has 3 kids, a wife and works 70 hours a week.

He wakes up at 4 AM to train each day and hasn’t missed a day of training since 2005.

He made the New Year’s resolution to not miss a day of training, which means 365 days a year of workouts, for a full year.

Each year since 2005, he has made the same resolution and has kept it.

If it is important, you will find a way to make it happen.

If $20 is the difference between success and failure, ride a bike, skip the bar one night a month, or brew your coffee at home and save the $1.45 at Starbucks.

If meeting your goals by fitting in your training into your busy schedule means you have to wake up at 4 AM to get in your training, throw away your TV and go to bed.

Because there are thousands of people meeting their goals by prioritizing what is important, waking up early and making it work.

I always smile when I see a video of a guy squatting in his home garage gym at 5 AM with snow on the ground.

Whining about 20 bucks makes you sound like an unsuccessful f***ing loser.

And complaining you can’t find 60 minutes a few days a week to train makes you sound like a lazy incompetent f**k.

Sometimes I feel like a man all alone on an island.

But then I realize that to get to that island, I had to swim, paddle and fight my way out there.

Then, once on the island, I had to claw and fight my way to the TOP of the Mountain.

Most people don’t want to do that kind of work.

Look at Venus and Serena Williams.

They began playing Tennis in Compton!

That’s a place where shootings happen everyday.

They were HUNGRY to escape and played for a much deeper reason that words can not explain.

Too many of us are COMFORTABLE where we live.

The beach, the mall, etc.

You don’t care if you get out or not.

Or….. perhaps you do.

Those who genuinely care will understand and have a passion for the fight.

Those who don’t, will be too busy, too tired and good enough.

The Underground is for those who want to be at the TOP of the mountain.

See you at The Top!

Blair-Wrestling-Extra-Champs

Above, Blair Wrestlers & Team Underground…. Drenched in Sweat, Some Blood, Aches & Pains But The Champions Always Do “Extra Credit!”

_________________

At The Underground Strength Gym, whenever the athletes finish a workout, I let our athletes know that they can stay extra and do “extra credit Champion workouts.”

This can be ANYTHING, it doesn’t have to be fancy, it can simply be doing an arm workout. It ALL adds up not just in the physical but most importantly, the mental aspect adds up.

When you do extra credit champion workouts, you boost confidence KNOWING you do the extra work that others make excuses for NOT doing.

Confidence is 1 of the Most Overlooked Aspects of a Training Program.

I’ve seen athletes who work hard BUT without great confidence, they never achieved the highest levels of success.
