NEW Edison & Manasquan T Shirts & What We STAND For!

Written by zach. Posted in Announcements, Articles, Athlete Training, Edison, Manasquan, NJ Baseball Training, NJ Basketball Training, NJ Cross Country Training, NJ Football Training, NJ Swim Training, NJ Track & Field Training, NJ Wrestling Training, Success Stories, Underground Strength Camp

Underground-Shirt-SOcrates

We’ve got NEW Underground T Shirts but instead of me ordering 200 shirts and running out of sizes,
I had our shirt co put them online.

This way you can order your exact size.

These are the same style and athletic fitting shirts we’ve been getting for the past 1.5 years.

==> http://foreverfierce.com/products/underground-strength-gym-august

The shirts ALWAYS stand for something!

– Our logo on the front represents where MUCH of The Underground began, training from The Edison tire yard and building Hammers with my unconventional training methods.

Back in the day every trainer was against my style but the could NOT deny that our results were unmatched.

We prove this time and again with ALL sports…..

Swimmers, Track & Field, Football, Baseball, Basketball, Wrestling, MMA / BJJ, Soccer, Fencing, Cross Country, LAX, Rugby……

The list of sports we’ve worked with goes on and on, from youth to Division 1, to Olympians…. The training gives athletes the edge in Mind, Body & Spirit.

– The Punisher Logo on the sleeve was inspired from realizing that we ALL have potential to be GREAT, BUT, there are external and internal influences and forces that try to pull you down…..

Pulling you down to be average…..

ALL athletes can be GREAT but you MUST fight the negative forces to keep them from holding you down.

Many of our athletes have “friends” who say: “You’re crazy for training at The Underground, just lift at Retro…. just lift at school….”

“It’s too expensive…..”

“It’s too hard…. I’m too tired…. I’m too busy….”

I learn more and more that MOST athletes NEVER had anyone believe in them.

Most athletes may have worked hard BUT they did all the wrong work, wrong technique….. None of their efforts amounted to the results they wished for.

They never had a Coach showing them the way of training that builds Strength NOT just in muscles, but from the heart, the mind and soul.

Get The Encyclopedia of Underground Strength & Conditioning HERE

We train MORE and Beyond the mere muscles at The Underground.

The Punisher Logo on the sleeve (and on the wall, pictured below) represents that we fight against all negative outside forces.

Rosa-Punisher-Gym

The back quote on our latest shirt is from Socrates……

Socrates-Strong-Quote

Why do I have that quote on the back?

Because I BELIEVE in these kids.

I stand up and fight for what is right with our athletes…..

I KNOW how our training changes lives and so when I see other Coaches who have an open door to get help from us in Manasquan and Edison and REFUSE the help, I get fired UP!

These kids don’t get chances after chances…. Before you know it, they’re seniors and it’s the Last Chance to make it all happen. Kids deserve an honest chance at Success and becoming a Champion. Their success will carry over to life success.

As I always say….

Stand for Something

Or Fall for Anything.

Edison & Manasquan Athletes Dehydrated, Hungry & Exhausted?

This Summer has proven to be very interesting.

This Summer I’ve heard the most “I feel light headed” comments than ever before.

As well as these comments:

– I woke up at 12 o’clock

– I didn’t really get to eat today, I just had a bowl of cereal

Many of our athletes, especially those in Football, are likely walking around slightly dehydrated.

Many show up to The Underground in Edison and Manasquan with 1 small water bottle.

Our athletes need to do the following:

– Drink a LOT more water. If you’re outdoors during the day you need to drink 1 gallon of water by 5 PM. The heat along with training and sun beating down on you requires more hydration.

– Have several pieces of fruit throughout the day: watermelon, oranges, peaches, blueberries and pineapple. You can pick these up at any supermarket and cut them up so you have a large bowl of fruit salad in the house.

– Eat small meals, frequently throughout the day. If you need quick calories and you’re in a rush or out and about with your friends, stop at the local 7-11 and get some trail mix and chocolate milk. You can also grab some Greek Yogurt and have 2 – 3 cups of Yogurt a day.

There are plenty of fast, quality options, no matter what.

– Make sure breakfast is STRONG. Eat eggs, toast with butter and some fruit. Add oatmeal if you’re still hungry.

You can always make a protein shake.

If you have protein powder, mix it up in a blender with water, a banana, a spoon of almond butter and a scoop of dried oats.

If you don’t have protein powder, make the old school strength shake:

– 12-16 oz organic whole milk

– spoon of organic honey

– 1 banana

– 1 spoon almond butter

– 1/2 cup dried oats

If you’re thin and need to gain weight, add a scoop of ice cream.

When you’re playing Football for 2 – 3 hours a day plus lifting, you NEED to fuel your body and mind.

Dedication to your nutrition is just part of Living the Code 365.

You need to train in season while your competition makes excuses for being too tired or too busy.

You must fire up the mind by reading great books, watching inspirational movies and so on.

You will succeed when…..

In Season Workouts & Why YOU Must Spartan UP!

I’m pretty psyched that The Underground Strength Gym was featured inside Inc. Magazine’s web site

My buddy, Joe DeSena is the Founder of Spartan Race.

They asked Joe to pick his favorite lessons from his podcast discussing lessons from successful people.

The full article is here:

http://www.inc.com/joe-desena/7-lessons-on-quitting-from-people-who-hate-to-quit.html

You can also – or shall I say, you SHOULD listen and watch my interview here:

==================

It is likely that come September we will open up an in season program with a 1 x week training option and a Sunday morning workout.

Training 1 x week in season is 100% MORE than Zero. This adds up BIG time.

If you stop training at The Underground, by the end of your season, you are at your weakest, your slowest, least confident and least prepared for the MOST important time of year: play offs, sectionals, etc.

Why STOP the very thing that gives you the edge?

“Too Busy” is what the NON successful say. We ALL have time for what is MOST important.

For the In Season Workouts……

Only current members can do this, though.

If you already quit, it’s too late.

The registration will open up in late August and will run in 3 month blocks:

Sep. 1st – Nov. 30th

I don’t want to have athletes here who bail out at the first sign of a busy schedule.

The desire to Spartan UP during tough times is what I want to see in you.

And, being “too busy” is not the case.

We all make time for what is important.

I know MANY hate me for being tough, BUT, I would hate myself for allowing others to make excuses when they are capable of achieving more.

I will always be OK w/ being hated for pushing people to be successful.

I don’t want to be LIKED b/c I allowed people to make excuses.

There is NO honor in living that way.

Why Athlete’s Deserve An Honest Chance At Success

Manasquan-Gym-TireFlip-Torchia

Our Saturday morning workouts have been pumping.

The kids have high energy and we’ve got 10-15 athletes every Saturday. I LOVE it!

1 of my earliest athletes stopped in, he is pictured above flipping the 550 lb tire. Anthony Torchia is his name, and he began training in 8th grade and continued until freshman year in college.

He was on vacation with family and met up with his friend and a manager of TEST Sports Clubs.

His friend was inspired and impressed with the work ethic and energy at The Manasquan Underground Strength Gym, as are all Coaches who visit.

Manasquan Gym & Athlete Dedication Tips

Above, a GREAT quote by Walt Disney.

GREAT for our athletes at The Manasquan & Edison Underground Strength Gym.

During the teenage years, the athletes are primed and ready for putting on lean muscle, getting stronger, faster, more explosive and tougher.

This is what I call the window of opportunity and I explain it often to the parents and athletes in Manasquan and Edison.

As you get older, more and more opportunity slips away.

So, when I ask our athletes about their breakfast, their lunch, etc – I am constantly shocked with how many use the same excuses:

“I was running late….”

“I was so busy today….”

” I had to work today….”

Listen….

Everyone is busy.

Everyone works…. Well, OK, NOT everyone…..

But if you want to become a CHAMPION, then do the things that your competition makes excuses about doing. Don’t fall into their same path of excuses, skipping meals, not eating enough, not eating healthy, not doing extra workouts on your own, etc.

To All our Manasquan & Edison Athletes:

– You received a welcome packet when you signed up. Follow the nutrition guidelines in there AND the extra Bodyweight guidelines in the welcome packet.

– If a Coach gives you specific homework pertaining to nutrition, sleep, lifestyle, flexibility, mobility, etc – well, FOLLOW THROUGH! Do the Work!

WARNING: This Video Contains Adult Language BUT The Lessons Are A MUST Learn!

Dedication and Hard Work are BEAUTIFUL.

It is MUCH better to experience success than to be average and mediocre.

Let’s keep attacking Life & Lifting!

LOVE The Journey Of Success

Written by zach. You MUST fall in love with the long journey towards success.

The ups and the downs come with it. The bumps, the obstacles, the challenges – find JOY in all of them.

The key to Success is NEVER quitting.

Most Quit mid way through, others quit before they even start and some quit when they are literally one inch from the finish line.

Ray Jaz recently got his 100th career victory.

Ray has been training with us since 7th grade and last year wrestled at 120 lbs, cutting over 30 lbs.

This weekend, he got a tech fall at 152 lbs for his 100th career victory.

Ray-Jaz-100-Wins

Then we have Chris Lee, who began training in the late fall his Junior year to prepare for Baseball.

He had amazing determination and he started out weak and out of shape just like everyone else.

He committed to the Complete Lifestyle, not just the training.

He ate healthy, showed up for extra workouts, did sprints in his backyard, played baseball with friends AND had private Baseball lessons.

Now he is a freshman in college and training harder than ever for his first season of college baseball.

Look what happens when you make the dedication.

Chris-Lee-Underground-Edison

Sunday morning at 9 AM The Manasquan Underground Strength Gym was pumping.

Our favorite boys from Roselle Park drove 1 hour (maybe longer) to get in their in season training.

Mark Signorello and Thomas Grosso.

Tommy Gunz is 9 – 1 so far this season and his confidence is sky high.

Sigs also has a 10 or more wins and received 2 GREAT awards for his final season of high school Football.

roselle-park-wrestling-football-sigs

Sigs & Tommy Gunz traveled to Manasquan many times over the summer to train, eat and hang out on the beach.

It’s been awesome seeing these boys grow into young, successful men.

They’ve remained committed and have been willing to do the work that their competition doesn’t want to do.

None of these boys started out at the top of their game.

None of them.

It took time and effort, lots of commitment and doing what the majority of others don’t want to do.

You must decide if you want success or merely want to talk about success.

Edison Athletes Motivation with Rocky & Al Pacino

These guys REALLY fired me up. There is something AMAZING about kids who “get it”.

They do the HARD work without anyone else motivating them, they motivate themselves from within. This is a VERY rare quality as I’ve worked with hundreds and hundreds of athletes, teams and coaches through the years.

Check out the motivation and intensity of the crew at The Edison Underground Strength Gym.

3 Biggest Mistakes Parents Must Avoid When Choosing A Strength Coach – Pt 2

Baseball Player, Chris Lee Remained 178 lbs BUT, dropped from 32% Body Fat to 12% Body Fat

Baseball Player, Chris Lee Remained 178 lbs BUT, dropped from 32% Body Fat to 12% Body Fat

Mistake # 2

Is your child being pigeon holed into following a cookie cutter program?

Or……

Is the program being individualized for your child?

Does the program continuously assess your child’s needs, looking at weak points, strong points and also the mental aspect your child needs?

Athletes are ALL different.

They require different coaching styles.

They require different levels of intensity.

They require different exercises to address muscular imbalances and weak areas.

Their training program must constantly evolve to be most effective.

A Coach with experience understands that all athletes are different and all athletes require different training programs.

For ANY of this training to work, the parents AND the athletes need to be humble, open minded and willing to work HARD on a consistent basis.

Some parents are too proud to admit that their child needs an expert to help them.

Instead, Dad buys a cookie cutter program from the book store or on the internet and decides to coach his son / daughter on his own.

There is a safety issue here and without a doubt, copying a program from a book and thinking that is what will take your child to the top is a big mistake.

Some kids are too arrogant to work with a Coach or worst, they might not want to do the work necessary to get to the top. Being successful and becoming a champion requires hard work.

Watch this video where we explain key traits athletes need to succeed not just in sports, but in life as well.

2 Traits ALL Athletes Must Possess

Written by zach. Posted in Articles, Athlete Training, NJ Baseball Training, NJ Basketball Training, NJ Cross Country Training, NJ Football Training, NJ Swim Training, NJ Track & Field Training, NJ Wrestling Training, Success Stories, Training Videos, Underground Strength Camp, Workouts

the-rock-success-quote

There are 2 things all successful athletes need to have:

1) They need to be HUMBLE. This doesn’t mean to avoid showing their confidence, this means to keep an open mind and NEVER think you are too good to learn from a Coach. A humble athlete is coachable. Those who are too good or too busy to learn don’t stay at the top for long.

cole-grenade-pull-up

2) They need to be ready to HUSTLE. Hard work is ONE thing, even better than that is SMART work. This is how we dial in the training at The Underground Strength Gym. It’s EASY to make an athlete tired or exhausted or fatigued. Anyone can do that. It takes NO skill. A Great Coach understands how to give the athlete optimal training, where the training improves sports performance and does NOT take away from it.

Should we really be seeing young athletes in middle school and even high school with “Little Leaguers Elbow” or getting Tommy John surgery? NO.

The problem is those kids play too much sports and haven’t built their tendons, muscles and ligaments appropriately.

Again. SMART training is the ticket.

Watch this Video to hear what athletes have to say about being humble, training smart and working to hard to become a champion.

See you at The Underground Strength Gym!
